Bietigheim-Bissingen: Pioneer for sustainable road infrastructure

With the start in 1998, a success story of sustainable traffic control began in Bietigheim-Bissingen: By using energy-saving LED technology, approx. 1,297,602 kg CO2 have been saved to date. In addition to the aspect of sustainability, the conversion has also saved electricity and thus costs. In the entire period, approx. 6,488,000 kWh of electricity have been saved. With rising electricity prices, cost savings will become even more relevant in the future.

LED signal heads for more safety and environmental protection

Our highly cost-effective LED signal heads are the best way to lower the running costs of traffic infrastructure, reduce energy consumption and protect traffic signals from future problems with outdated lamps. Advanced LED technology combines high visibility with maximum energy efficiency. Thanks to Very-Low-Power LED technology, they consume only a few watts of energy and thus up to 80 % less than previous 230 V LED signal heads.
Thanks to the simple installation process, there is also less waste. Instead of installing new units, we simply replace all existing signal heads and bulbs with new LED units.

The 1-watt traffic light

Our 1-Watt-technology is the world’s first solution for a “1 watt crossing” with SIL3 safety standard!

This is due to the fact that our LED solution uses our innovative Yulux2 VLP monitoring technology. This works by dispensing with analogue load resistors and switching elements in the signal heads and using digital LED driver modules and state-of-the-art LEDs with particularly low power consumption. This reduces energy consumption to a minimum of 1 to 2 watts, making it probably the most energy-efficient traffic light in the world.


Our project in Bietigheim-Bissingen uses concrete data to show the influence that state-of-the-art technology can have on the electricity and CO2 consumption of urban road infrastructure. The simple implementation of our solution can make cities pioneers of sustainable mobility within a short time. With its efficiency, enormous potential and longevity, our LED technology can help achieve sustainability goals and contribute to society and the environment.
