Since October 2019, Yunex Traffic has been commissioning a new traffic light system in Switzerland every week. By the end of 2023, we will install more than 200 sX controllers. sX offers innovations in the areas of network-adaptive controls, increased failure safety and state-of-the-art technology such as networking, cyber security and easy access via web browser.
The city of Zurich is characterized by its high level of attractiveness and good accessibility. It is one of the most livable cities in the world. To ensure that this remains the case, Zurich has drawn up the strategy called “Stadtverkehr 2025” which means “Urban Transport 2025”. Among other things, the strategy aims to increase the modal split of public transport, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic and to protect the population from the negative effects of private motorized transport. This requires efficient control of the traffic flow via traffic lights.
At the end of 2016, the city launched a comprehensive procurement process to replace the existing 400 traffic lights by 2025. The contract was awarded to two companies in April 2019. Since October 2019, Yunex Traffic has been replacing over 200 of the city's 400 traffic lights every week (commissioning is always on Tuesdays). With our partner Cablex we were the first to convert a bottleneck for motorized and public traffic: Bürkliplatz, located directly on the lakeside promenade, is a favorite spot for tourists and locals. This constellation made the first commissioning a special challenge, which we mastered together with our partner Cablex smoothly and to the satisfaction of the client, the Transport Department of the City of Zurich.
Zurich will use the new sX control unit, which is part of a web based, scalable product family. sX can be used as a stand-alone solution, without connection to a higher-level traffic computer, up to seamless integration into comprehensive traffic control systems of larger cities. The device adapts flexibly to the growing traffic infrastructure.
In Zurich, a total of three different versions in compact design are available at the customer's request. The 40-volt technology used saves the operator energy costs compared to the old 230-volt systems, which were already equipped with LED technology. The connection to the traffic facility management system of the city of Zurich is made via a specially developed software module driver.
