Yunex Traffic presents solutions for safe and secure Tunnel operations

  • For the first time in the company’s history, Yunex Traffic showcase their solutions for digital tunnel and highway management at World Tunnel Congress 2022.
  • The spotlight will be on the digital tunnel and highway management system Varia, and on the Digital Twin.
  • Yunex Traffic’s digital solutions for tunnel management and operations are already in use in various projects all around the world.

Munich, August 25th, 2022. Yunex Traffic, a global leader in intelligent transport systems, will showcase their solutions for intelligent tunnel and highway management at this year's World Tunnel Congress. At the Yunex Traffic booth, visitors are invited to experience digital solutions that enable tunnel operators to take the precautions for optimal and safe tunnel operation already in the planning and construction phase.

Visitors to the World Tunnel Congress can usually expect to see the latest innovations in the field of tunnel construction. This year, Yunex Traffic is adding their  digital solutions that set the ground for safe tunnel and highway management to the program. The focus is primarily on two solutions: Varia and the Digital Twin.

Varia – the brain of the tunnel

Varia is an integrated traffic and plant management system that combines tunnel operation technology and highway control technology. It is a modular software which can be adapted to specific customer demands and requirements. Various subsystems can be integrated, monitored and controlled by our integrated traffic and plant management system to ensure reliability, availability, maintainability and safety of the infrastructure asset.

Automatic response plans and strategies are in place to immediately react to any detection result, traffic situation and incident, like a blocked lane, a stopped vehicle or even a fire in a tunnel. In this way, they also contribute to greater safety in tunnels and on highways - and protect people, structures and the environment.

The ease of operations is ensured by guided workflows for the operator and by the interoperability of all sub-systems, i.e., various systems will automatically interact without any human intervention.

Digital Twin – experiencing tunnels in virtual reality

A Digital Twin is a virtual representation of real-world infrastructure, systems, and processes, where the representation is kept in-sync with the real world. It is the result of combining Building Information, Traffic and Plant Management System, Traffic Simulation and Asset Management. A Digital Twin can replace the real systems in many process steps to increase efficiency or perform actions that would be very difficult in the real world. The benefits include a higher project quality, faster implementation, reduced project costs and optimized operation.

With live demonstrations and a VR booth on site, Yunex Traffic will bring these solutions to life at the World Tunnel Congress 2022. In addition, visitors to the booth will have the opportunity to gain insight into ongoing projects of Yunex Traffic. The company’s digital solutions are already successfully in use or being implemented all over the world; among others in well-known tunnel projects such as the Stockholm Bypass, the North-South Expressway in Singapore, the A7 tunnel chain in Hamburg and the Gotthard Tunnel in Switzerland.

"If tunnel operators think about how the tunnel will be operated during the planning phase, they can save time and money while ensuring safe operation. Our digital solutions make this possible - simply and intuitively. We are excited  to present them for the first time at the World Tunnel Congress 2022 and thus drive forward digitization in the construction and operation of tunnels”, says Holger Erhardt, Senior Vice President Interurban and Tolling at Yunex Traffic.
