Major milestone in Miami-Dade County ATMS Upgrade Project

Press release

Installation of 3,000 road traffic controllers in Miami-Dade

  • The new, state-of-the-art Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) will better serve commuters, transit users, pedestrians, and bicyclists throughout Miami-Dade County while increasing safety and operational efficiency and reducing emissions.
  • The installation of nearly 3,000 controllers as well as traffic detection infrastructure is a major milestone in the seven-year upgrade.
  • With this, the largest project in company history, Yunex Traffic demonstrates commitment to partnership with Miami-Dade County by combining global and local expertise.

MIAMI, Florida March 28, 2022 – Yunex Traffic, a global intelligent traffic systems leader, has commenced the installation of nearly 3,000 controllers and the upgrade of the traffic detection infrastructure in Miami-Dade County. This follows the company’s recent deployment of its state-of-the-art TACTICSTM central traffic control system, a major milestone in Miami-Dade County’s massive seven-year traffic management upgrade, one of the largest projects in Yunex Traffic’s history.

In addition to replacing the outdated controllers with Yunex systems, crews will deploy networked detection devices at signalized intersections throughout Miami-Dade County.

Bringing TACTICS online unlocks leading edge intelligent traffic management capability in Miami-Dade County. The system will pave the way for Adaptive Signal Control Technology (ASCT) and Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures which will allow County engineers to proactively manage and optimize traffic signals and improve traffic flow.

The TACTICS system will analyze signalized intersections in near real-time for network optimization. “We’re proud to begin installation just 9-months after the Notice to Proceed,” said Nils Soyke, Senior Project Manager for Yunex Traffic. “This efficiency is driven by engineering and project management excellence unmatched by previous projects. The collaborative and customer focused approach and adaptation of best practices and lessons learned enabled Yunex Traffic to deliver these milestones despite the challenges of COVID.”

“Miami-Dade County is committed to improving mobility across all modes of transportation,” said Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “I am thrilled to see progress with our new Advanced Traffic Management System. In a few years, the system will help drivers spend less time behind the wheel during their daily commute and improve the quality of life for our community.

“We are modernizing our transportation system by deploying technology that moves people and freight more efficiently”

“We are modernizing our transportation system by deploying technology that moves people and freight more efficiently,” said Eulois Cleckley, Director and CEO of the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works. “Our community continues to grow, and our new traffic management system will upgrade approximately 3,000 traffic signals with the latest technology that better manages traffic flow.

As part of this project and in keeping with the company’s core philosophy, Yunex Traffic is deeply passionate about improving all modes of mobility for pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, and motorists in Miami-Dade. As an example, the company is demonstrating a new smartphone-based bike detection system called SiBike in the county, that allows intersections to better detect cyclists for improved mobility and safety.

To emphasize Yunex Traffic’s dedication to this ground-breaking project, the company established a new office in the heart of the County and fully dedicated a local team of over 22 staff, including 15 local hires all supported by key local partners. With that commitment, Yunex Traffic is able to combine its global expertise and local competence to deliver the project on time and on budget.
