Meet Nikhita and see how she’s transforming traffic in the USA!

The traffic systems we design, build, install and maintain are constantly evolving. And, our Research & Development teams are developing the very technologies that are changing the way we move, all over the world!

Meet Nikhita Singh Satish, a Senior Software Developer, located in the USA. Hear about her role with #TeamYunexTraffic and see how she is transforming traffic – for today and tomorrow.

Hi Nikhita, thanks for speaking with us! Can you tell us about your role and what you do?

Absolutely! Let me introduce myself – I’m Nikhita, a Software Engineer with a specialization in embedded systems. I’m part of the Yunex Traffic R&D team where I dive into exciting Connected Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) product development.

My focus? Well, it’s all about Blade Controllers, Roadside Units (RSUs), and On-Board Units (OBUs). These little marvels enable vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication. From concept to deployment, I’m in the thick of it, ensuring seamless solutions for safer, smarter transportation systems.

How long have you been with #TeamYunexTraffic?

I’ve been with Yunex Traffic for almost four years.

What excites you about your role?

When I first joined Yunex Traffic as a Software Developer, I came from a non-traffic background. The transition was both challenging and exhilarating. Initially, I had to immerse myself in a whole new world of traffic dynamics and infrastructure. The learning curve was steep, but it was also incredibly rewarding.

From day one, I was crafting solutions that directly enhanced how traffic is managed. I quickly discovered the immense excitement in my role, especially as I started to see the real-world impact of my work. Collaborating with a diverse team of engineers and traffic management experts was a game-changer. Their expertise and insights were invaluable, and I found myself constantly learning and growing.

One of the most surprising things I’ve discovered in this field is realizing the crucial impact of our work. Knowing that the products I contribute to help create safer roads and improve transportation efficiency gives my job a deeper meaning beyond just coding. The dynamic nature of traffic infrastructure ensures there are always new challenges or technologies to explore which keeps me engaged and motivated. Additionally, interacting directly with clients and various Departments of Transportation across cities and seeing firsthand how our solutions positively impact their operations is incredibly satisfying.

It’s been a transformative experience, filled with continuous learning and a profound sense of accomplishment.

Are there any challenges within your role?

Certainly, there are challenges that come with developing software for traffic infrastructure. One major aspect is integrating our solutions with existing infrastructure seamlessly, which requires careful planning and testing to ensure compatibility and minimal disruption.

Additionally, ensuring that our product performs reliably under varying conditions is a continuous endeavor that demands meticulous attention to detail and rigorous testing.

Also, keeping pace with rapid advancements in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) industry and the boom in AI, while ensuring their practical applicability in traffic management, requires ongoing exploration and adaptation. But these challenges inspire ingenuity and strengthen my dedication to deliver impactful solutions.

If you could name just one project that you loved working on at Yunex Traffic so far – what would this be?

Hmmm, that’s a tough question! If I had to choose one, I would say the project with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for preempting emergency vehicles with ramp meters stands out as a particularly memorable and fulfilling experience. The project included using connected vehicle technologies to notify drivers of an oncoming emergency vehicle and improve system emergency response performance in the Houston district. I had the opportunity to be deeply involved in every phase of the project lifecycle – from the initial solution development to conducting rigorous field tests and finally overseeing the acceptance testing.

The project was not only technically challenging but also highly rewarding. Being able to see the direct impact of our work in improving emergency response times and enhancing traffic flow was incredibly gratifying. Moreover, the collaborative nature of the project allowed me to grow both professionally and personally, learning from experts in both software development and traffic management.

Overall, this project highlights the hands-on, impactful work I find most fulfilling at Yunex Traffic.

If you could say anything to a person considering a role at Yunex Traffic – what advice would you give?

If you’re considering a role at Yunex Traffic, my advice would be to embrace the opportunity! Your ideas can truly make a difference here. You’ll gain hands-on experience with innovative traffic solutions, collaborating with a team of great colleagues. Plus, you’ll have the chance to see your projects transform city streets and enhance traffic safety, making a real impact on urban mobility.
