CO2 performance ladder – sustainable business

Yunex attaches great importance to the sustainability of production processes and of its own organization worldwide. This is of course reflected in the products that the company makes. Yunex, for example, is one of the leading players in the field of sustainable technologies. But the concept of sustainability is also highly regarded in our own business operations. This is reflected in the use of technology with less or no CO2 emissions (part of the so-called green portfolio) and the HLS-KMS management system for Quality and EHS (Environment, Health & Safety). Yunex Traffic B.V. hitherto part of Yunex Traffic has been certified as a company on the "CO2 performance ladder", whereby the highest level, level 5, has been reached for several years now.

The instrument CO2-performance-ladder

The CO2 performance ladder is an instrument to encourage companies to act CO2 aware and is managed by the independent Foundation for Climate Friendly Procurement & Entrepreneurship (SKAO).

Working method of the CO2 performance ladder

The purpose of the CO2 performance ladder is described on the SKAO website as follows: "The aim of the ladder is (1) to encourage companies to know their own CO2 emissions - and those of their suppliers - and (2) to continuously look for new possibilities to reduce emissions as a result of their own operations and their own projects. The ladder then stimulates companies to (3) actually implement those measures and, moreover, (4) to share the acquired knowledge transparently and (5) actively look for opportunities to further reduce emissions together with colleagues, knowledge institutions, social parties and governments." Shown in the following sections: Inventory Energy and CO2 reduction policy Communication Participation initiatives

1. Inventory – insight into energy flows and CO2 emissions

In the identification of emissions, in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, a distinction is made between three sources of emission (known as scopes) in two categories: direct emissions and indirect emissions.

Scope 1 includes direct emissions that are managed and controlled by the organization. Examples include the combustion of fuels in fixed machinery, business transport in vehicles owned or leased by the reporting organization and emissions from refrigeration equipment and air-conditioning systems;

Scope 2 includes indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam or heat;

Scope 3 includes other indirect emissions from sources such as business kilometers driven by private cars, business public transport and air traffic, commuting, production of purchased materials and outsourced activities such as waste processing and freight transport. The inventory and analysis of the energy flows are published in the six-monthly carbon footprint reports, the scope 3 emission inventory and the chain analysis roadside systems. The scope 3 emission inventory and the chain analysis are updated annually

2. Energy and CO2 reduction policy

Ambition CO2 emission reduction 2020 – 2025 Yunex Traffic, has been taken important since 2011 in energy reduction, reduction of its own footprint and the realization of significant reductions in the chain. Yunex Traffic objective has been set and communicated that we will operate completely CO2 neutral by the end of 2030.

With this plan, Yunex Traffic has the aim to: Reduce CO2 emissions up to and including FY 2025 compared to FY 2019 for scope 1 and 2 by 55%. Reduce CO2 emissions up to and including FY 2025 compared to FY 2019 for scope 3 by 34%. The realization of the objectives is detailed in the document Reduction plan scope 1-2-3 version 1.0 Yunex Traffic FY 2020-2025. Yunex Traffic aims to be the first major industrial company in the world with a neutral CO2 footprint by 2030. The company aims to reduce its CO2 emissions by 50% by 2020.

In order to reduce its CO2 emissions in the long term, Yunex Traffic B.V. measures for building, activities and mobility, including the following measures:

Carrying out the  Yunex Traffic policy, with the objective that by the end of FY 2025 at the latest the fleet consists of at least 75% electric and/or sustainably powered vehicles, subject to the necessary technical developments in the market.

The accommodation of  Yunex Traffic B.V. can be realized according to label A Introduction and application of energy-neutral roadside systems in traffic engineering.

Yunex Traffic B.V. is aware of the environmental effects of its energy consumption and has therefore set itself the goal of structurally reducing energy consumption and improving the energy efficiency of its processes. To achieve this,

Yunex Traffic has set up an energy management system equivalent to ISO 50001.

The management determines the objective(s) for scope 1, 2 and 3 and Business Support monitors the action plan and implementation. Various reduction measures have now been initiated and  Yunex Traffic is participating in various initiatives as described on the page 'participation initiatives'.

3. Communication

Worldwide, Yunex attaches great importance to transparency about sustainability of production processes, products and of its own organization, also in line with the communication objectives and requirements from the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and the CO2 performance ladder. That is why  Yunex Traffic B.V. a communication plan is drawn up, the Carbon footprint report is published every six months and, where applicable, sustainability and energy reduction are part of project implementation and project communication.

4. Participation initiatives

Yunex Traffic B.V. is involved in the following initiatives: Connect Center Underground Construction Sector National Program Better Utilization For more information, reference is made to the document Sustainable initiatives and participations January 2022 and the websites of the initiatives, which show that  Yunex Traffic B.V. participates in these initiatives or sector-wide programmes.

Reducing the carbon footprint together

We also want to be a sustainable partner in the chain for our clients. We enter into a dialogue with each other, because sustainability cannot be achieved alone. The first cost-saving measures have been taken in-house and consultations with chain partners have started. We ask our partners to act in an energy-conscious manner when deploying products and services. And in order to fully live up to the word, our purchasing conditions have also been adjusted. 'Walk the talk' is not an empty promise with us.
