The Aimsun Next software helps cities develop transport models that can be used to design, plan and deliver transport solutions: from the smallest junction improvement to region-wide infrastructure and land use developments.

Aimsun Next is a unique software that offers fully integrated modelling, which sets it apart from other similar software solutions. The latest version is able to model pedestrians, cyclists and public transport use. Aimsun Next is also used for scenario testing and management prior to special events such as the Toronto Games, or to provide cities such as Singapore with a mesoscopic simulation of the entire city.

Highlights of Aimsun Next.

Aimsun Next can simulate entire cities much faster than real time: A microscopic model of Singapore can run 2-3 times faster than real time on a standard laptop. The meso model is 4-6 times faster. For large models, this difference is crucial. For smaller models, it allows more ‘what if’ scenarios, iterations and sensitivity analysis in the same time budget.

Integrated macro, meso and micro modelling levels allow you to gradually extend the boundaries of your model without having to change your software or sacrifice speed – the hybrid simulator lets you zoom in and out at will, seeing close-up detail only where you need it.

Store and compare multiple geometries and scenarios in a single file, eliminating tedious copy and paste and unmanageable file libraries.

Customise your models: Build API extensions in C++ or Python and override behavioural models with the microSDK.

Aimsun Next’s Dynamic Traffic Assignment (DTA) scheme gives you the ability to model steady-state behaviour as well as respond to one-off scenarios. This is particularly important in corridor and large urban models where calibration of microsimulation assignments can be difficult.

An all-in-one model means a single payment for maintenance, training and support. It’s also quicker to learn and quicker to use, as there’s no error-prone manual interface between different software packages.

Simulation can significantly improve the accuracy and relevance of travel time forecasts. Because it takes into account capacity changes and network effects, it is the only technique that allows operators to quickly and objectively compare the effectiveness of complex alternative traffic management strategies.

Unlike traditional analytical forecasting methods, individual vehicle simulation allows for explicit and faithful emulation of ITS policies.
