Yunex Traffic brings smart tram priority to Warsaw’s new Wilanów line

  • 29 intersections equipped with sX controllers and advanced traffic actuation algorithms ensuring trams move with minimal delays and maximum priority for faster, greener journeys.
  • Custom GPS-based tram detection system and detector data exchange between intersections enabling real-time coordination between vehicles and traffic lights for seamless journeys.
  • Part of Warsaw’s €284M investment in sustainable mobility reducing car dependency, cutting CO₂ emissions, and making public transport the preferred choice.

Warsaw, 17 December 2025. Yunex Traffic is proud to play a key role in one of Warsaw’s most ambitious public transport projects: the new tram route connecting the Wilanów district with the city center. This 6.5 km line is designed to make public transport faster, greener, and more reliable for thousands of residents.

Transforming Warsaw’s mobility with smart tram priority

The “Tram to Wilanów” project is more than just tracks and trams. It’s about transforming mobility in Warsaw by reducing car dependency and cutting CO₂ emissions. With 29 intersections along the route, ensuring smooth tram flow is critical. That’s where Yunex Traffic steps in with advanced traffic actuation algorithms and advanced tram detection technology. These innovations allow traffic controllers to exchange real-time data, guaranteeing the highest level of tram priority and minimizing delays.

Our role in building intelligent intersections for seamless tram travel

We’re delivering a complete traffic light infrastructure for the new line, including:

  • Design of a traffic control system at intersections in the scope of hardware;
  • Supply of traffic control system hardware, including SX controllers, signal heads, detectors, and other components;
  • Design of a traffic control system in scope of traffic engineering, excluding traffic actuation control algorithms;
  • Testing and implementation in the field of traffic actuation control algorithms provided by the customer.

“Our goal was to create an intelligent infrastructure that ensures maximum priority and smooth passage for trams. We have implemented the latest solutions in traffic light technology and introduced tram priority to improve travel comfort and encourage residents to use public transport. This solution not only shortens travel times but also truly supports the city’s vision – fewer cars, lower CO₂ emissions, and more sustainable mobility.”

Why tram priority matters for Warsaw’s future

Tram priority means shorter travel times, fewer cars on the road, and cleaner air for Warsaw. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and decades of expertise, Yunex Traffic ensures that public transport remains the backbone of more sustainable urban mobility.

Driving Warsaw’s vision for more sustainable urban mobility

This project is part of Warsaw’s long-term public transport policy, aiming to shift from individual car use to efficient, eco-friendly alternatives. With a total investment of around 1.2 billion PLN (€284 million), the city is setting a benchmark for smart mobility in Europe.

What’s next: A future-ready tram network

The line is expected to be fully operational by December 2025, and we’re excited to see how our solutions will improve daily life for Warsaw’s residents. Together with Tramwaje Warszawskie, we’re building a future where public transport is not just an option, it’s the best choice.
