Meet Lucas, our Global Sustainability Analyst. Hear about his role and see how he is transforming sustainability – for today and tomorrow.
Hi Lucas, thanks for speaking with us! Can you tell us about your role and what you do?
Lucas: Yes of course. I am the Global Sustainability Analyst for Yunex Traffic, working within the Real Estate team and alongside our sustainability team to analyze and report on our environmental targets and KPIs. It is also my role to help oversee environmental improvements across our global locations, whether that is moving to a more sustainable premise, decarbonization opportunities or implementing initiatives and policies to help reduce our energy and water consumption. I am also very passionate about digitalization and am currently working on a series of digital applications to better capture and store our environmental data, improving workflows and as a result, the quality of our sustainability reporting.
How long have you been with #TeamYunexTrafifc?
Lucas: I joined Yunex Traffic in March 2024 so have been in this role for just over one and a half years. This is my first role after graduating from university and I am really enjoying it.
Can you share how your work contributes to our overall goal of reducing environmental impact?
Lucas: With premises located across 27 countries, our buildings have the potential to produce a significant environmental footprint, consuming large quantities of energy and water, as well as producing waste of many different types. As a team, we aim to continuously improve the environmental impact of our buildings wherever possible.
Where environmental initiatives have been successfully implemented, they are submitted into a digital application where we track environmental improvements from our locations across the globe. With the amazing efforts of the local teams in each country, we have delivered over 80 environmental initiatives worldwide since the application was created in 2024 and are continually making a positive impact on the environment as a result.
What is one thing you love most about your role?
Lucas: What I love most about working at Yunex Traffic is the incredible culture that encourages individual creativity and fresh perspectives. As someone who is just starting out their career in sustainability, the opportunity to tackle problems in my own way is something I really value, making every day at Yunex Traffic both unique and genuinely exciting.
Are there any challenges?
Lucas: The main challenge I face can be attributed to the huge scope of sustainability and how it can be applied to all aspects of the business. As such, it can be a challenge to know where to prioritize your work and efforts, especially as a small team. Thankfully, the business is filled with an abundance of colleagues who are passionate about sustainability and protecting the environment. Collaboration amongst colleagues, and across a variety of teams, has allowed us to deliver large-scale sustainable improvements across the business.
Can you share a recent success or milestone related to your work?
Lucas: As of 2024, 80% of our energy consumption is powered by renewable sources. This is a major achievement for our decarbonization journey, increasing from 28% to 80% in just one year, already exceeding our 2026 target of 70%. In order to achieve this, we took a blended approach of procuring renewable electricity, both locally from regional energy suppliers, and globally through our new partnership with the Norwegian company Becour, who specialize in renewable energy sourcing. This could only be achieved thanks to the hard work of our incredible colleagues around the world and the wider Real Estate team responsible for our renewable procurement.
